Alumni Interaction – Minutes of Meeting, April 19, 2025

A distinguished group of alumni from the inaugural batches of Petroleum and Chemical Engineering visited the RGIPT Jais campus on 19 April 2025. The Hon’ble Director chaired the interactive session held in the conference room with faculty members in attendance.

  • Alumni Engagement and Contributions: Alumni reaffirmed their commitment to RGIPT’s growth and expressed interest in supporting scholarships, academic initiatives, and institutional branding. They pledged to contribute to an 'Alumni Fund' for these purposes.
  • Establishment of Alumni Fund: The Director agreed to establish a separate account for the Alumni Fund, which will support branding activities, visibility initiatives, and student welfare programs.
  • Strengthening Alumni Communication: Alumni stressed the importance of enhanced communication and a stronger database. A dedicated platform for updates and engagement was suggested.
    Faculty confirmed that 'AlmaConnect' is being used as the official alumni networking platform.
  • Networking Expansion: The Director requested assistance from alumni in reaching out to fellow batchmates to expand the network.
  • Brand Visibility and Public Perception: Alumni recommended proactive engagement on social media and broader branding efforts to elevate RGIPT’s stature alongside institutions like the IITs.
    The Director directed the Web Management and Press-Publicity Committees to increase the frequency of updates across official platforms. Alumni were also encouraged to share professional milestones for promotion through official channels.
  • Academic Recognition and Participation: The Director emphasized participation in national/international conferences to enhance visibility. Students publishing in reputed journals will be duly recognized.
  • Inclusion in Examination and Academic Databases: Alumni suggested RGIPT’s listing across all major academic and examination databases. Faculty clarified that most listings are in place and any gaps will be addressed.
  • Alumni Representation in Governance: A proposal to include alumni representation on the Board of Governors was put forward. The Director requested faculty to draft a policy framework and circulate it for nominations.
  • Alumni-Student Mentorship Program: Alumni advocated for a structured mentorship program pairing each student with a mentor for career guidance.
    The Director appreciated the idea and directed faculty to develop an implementation strategy.
  • Guest Lectures and Industry Interface: Alumni expressed willingness to contribute via guest lectures. The Director proposed inviting them regularly and incorporating 1–2 lectures into course structures to align education with industry practices.
  • Enhancing Training and Placement: Suggestions were made to leverage alumni networks for expanding placement opportunities and mentoring, particularly in AI/ML-related domains.
    The Director acknowledged the input and initiated the Training & Placement Cell to integrate these recommendations.
  • Support for Entrepreneurship: Alumni pledged to mentor students in their startup journeys.
    Faculty updated them on the institute’s 'Design and Incubation Cell' that promotes student entrepreneurship.
  • Industry Exposure at Bengaluru Campus: Alumni lauded the initiative to hold final-year classes at the Energy Institute, Bengaluru, citing improved exposure and placement prospects.
    The Director welcomed their feedback and urged Bengaluru-based alumni to extend active support.

Conclusion:

Alumni expressed their sincere gratitude to the Director and faculty for organizing the session and appreciated the institute’s growth and responsiveness. Faculty acknowledged the constructive feedback and reiterated their commitment to strengthening alumni engagement. The Director assured prompt action on the discussed initiatives and closed the session with a formal vote of thanks.
