Design and Innovation Center
The Design and Innovation Centre (DIC) at the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology (RGIPT) has been established to foster a culture of innovation, design thinking, interdisciplinary collaboration, product development, and entrepreneurship among students and faculty. The Centre serves as a dedicated platform for translating innovative ideas into practical, industry-oriented solutions through structured mentorship, funding support, and institutional guidance.
The DIC bridges academia and industry by enabling students to work on real-world engineering and technology challenges, encouraging prototype development, and creating a pathway from ideation to commercialization through RGIPT's pre-incubation and incubation ecosystem.
Objectives
The Design & Innovation Centre aims to:
- Promote innovation and design thinking among students.
- Encourage product- and prototype-based solutions to industry challenges.
- Foster interdisciplinary collaboration across academic disciplines.
- Strengthen industry-academia partnerships through collaborative problem-solving.
- Support entrepreneurship by providing mentoring, funding, and pre-incubation facilities.
- Facilitate the transformation of innovative ideas into commercially viable technologies.
Programmes
The DIC operates a structured three-phase Design & Innovation Programme.
Phase I – Explore and Build
- Team formation and registration
- Selection of industry-linked problem statements
- Faculty mentorship
- Prototype development
- Submission of Phase-I Report
Duration: 4–8 Weeks
Phase II – Pre-Incubation
Selected teams receive:
- Dedicated pre-incubation workspace
- Advanced prototype development support
