FACULTY PROFILE

Prior to joining the faculty at Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology, Dr Debashis Panda was a postdoctoral fellow advised by Professor Peng Chen and Professor Kazuhiko Kinosita Jr at Cornell University, New York, USA, and Waseda University, Tokyo, Japan, respectively. His postdoctoral research developed approaches for quantitative aspects of single-molecule microscopy, in particular single-molecule localization, and resolvability. He received his doctorate from the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay in 2008.

Dr Panda’s current research lies at the interface of chemistry, physics, and biology, and is concerned with the application of spectroscopic and microscopic methodologies to resolve the intricacies of energy dynamics. The aim is to understand and develop light-harvesting systems (Solar Cells) through a scalable and sustainable route. Over the last decade, his group has contributed to and invented a variety of methods addressing different aspects of light-harvesting systems (LHSs). He is also involved in designing next-gen photocatalysts based on the concepts of nanotechnology for biomass valorization focusing to understand and acquire fundamental chemical knowledge for sustainable energy conversion and storage.
